At Humansdorp Primary School, our academic programme is designed to do two things exceptionally well: build strong foundational skills and prepare learners for a rapidly changing world.
We follow the South African CAPS curriculum, ensuring alignment with national standards, while enhancing it through innovative, values-based and trauma-informed teaching practices.
Literacy & Language Development
Strong reading, comprehension, writing, and communication skills form the backbone of lifelong learning. English is the Language of Learning and Teaching (LoLT), ensuring learners gain fluency and confidence in an academic English environment.
Mathematics Excellence
We prioritise numeracy mastery through structured teaching, continuous assessment, and targeted support where needed. Small class sizes allow teachers to identify gaps early and intervene effectively.
Natural & Social Sciences
Learners are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and understand the world around them through structured inquiry and discussion.
Trauma-Informed, Learner-Centred Methodology
Our educators are trained in trauma-informed and restorative practices, creating structured yet nurturing classrooms where learners feel supported, respected, and ready to engage.
Small Classes for Personalised Attention.
With classes capped at approximately 25–30 learners: Every child is known by name, Progress is closely monitored, Support is tailored to individual needs, High achievers and struggling learners both receive attention.
Future-Ready Learning
Beyond CAPS, we enhance learning through: Digital literacy, Coding & robotics exposure, Environmental awareness projects, and Afrocentric enrichment. Learners gain the skills, confidence, and character needed for high school and beyond.
